🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours night shifts required. Fixed 4-day working week rota. The practice operates a 24-hour emergency service with a dedicated night team, but this role does not include night shift participation.

About the Role

You’ll join 608 Vet Practice as an Exotics Veterinary Surgeon in a role built for specialists in exotic animal medicine. This is a permanent position with flexibility: work full-time or part-time on a 4-day working week with a fixed rota and no night shifts. The practice’s strong exotics caseload currently accounts for approximately 50% of the role, with clear scope to increase this in collaboration with management.

Based at 608 Veterinary Centre in Solihull, West Midlands, you’ll be part of a well-established, highly regarded team that places genuine emphasis on compassionate care. The practice operates a 24-hour emergency hospital, which means your exotics cases benefit from continuity of care supported by a dedicated night team, extensive in-house diagnostics, and specialist surgical facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard care to an expanding exotics caseload, including reptiles, small mammals, and birds
  • Perform a diverse range of procedures: routine consultations, diagnostics, surgical interventions (including orthopaedic and exploratory work), and hospitalisation of exotic species
  • Participate in monthly visits to manage the local college’s animal department
  • Collaborate with 16 vets and 30 nurses in a structured clinical team, including colleagues with exotics interests for case discussion and knowledge-sharing
  • Contribute to clinical meetings and support the practice’s commitment to continuous professional development
  • Maintain clinical protocols and excellent client communication standards

Requirements

  • Registered as a Veterinary Surgeon with the RCVS
  • Either hold, or be actively working towards, an Exotics certificate
  • Alternatively, demonstrated extensive experience managing exotics cases within a small animal practice setting
  • Commitment to high standards of care and excellent patient service delivery
  • Strong communication skills to maintain clinical protocols consistently

608 Vet Practice is part of Linnaeus and Mars Veterinary Health, the largest family-owned veterinary company in the world. The practice is well-established and highly regarded across the region. The team consists of 16 vets (including a Clinical Director and two Head Vets), 30 nurses (supported by a Clinical Nursing Manager), and 10 administrative associates, plus a Practice Manager. Six vets are currently undertaking further qualifications in surgery, internal medicine, and exotics, reflecting the practice’s commitment to continuous learning.

The 24-hour emergency hospital is fully equipped for a broad range of procedures: routine neutering, exploratory laparotomies, orthopaedic surgery, and specialist exotics care. The in-house laboratory offers extensive diagnostic capabilities including cortisol testing, bile acids, blood gases, ionised calcium, culture, and sensitivity testing.
