About the Role

This is your chance to start your veterinary career in a welcoming, supportive environment where learning is encouraged and mistakes are part of growth. You’ll be based primarily at the Halifax Road site, with occasional sessions at Abbey Lane, working a structured 40-hour week across three full days, two half days, and one Saturday in four (with a day off in lieu). Best of all: there’s no on-call requirement, so your evenings and nights are genuinely yours.

Abbeymoor Vets is located in vibrant Sheffield, with easy access to the Peak District for hiking, biking, and climbing, plus excellent shopping, cinemas, and a close motorway connection. The practice operates like a tight-knit family, with regular whole-practice meetings, dedicated clinical vet discussions, and a calendar full of team social nights. You’ll work alongside vets with specialist qualifications in medicine, surgery, and behaviour—all willing to share their knowledge.

The practice is equipped with digital X-ray and dental imaging, ultrasound with multiple probes, laparoscopic surgery capability, two operating theatres, a dedicated dental area, and in-house lab facilities. You’ll be supported through a structured graduate mentoring programme tailored to help you develop all the competencies needed for confident small animal practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide small animal veterinary care across dogs, cats, and small pets under mentored supervision
  • Undertake consultations, clinical examinations, and routine procedures with guidance from experienced colleagues
  • Participate in surgical procedures using the practice’s two operating theatres and laparoscopic equipment
  • Engage in regular case discussions and clinical meetings to build diagnostic and treatment knowledge
  • Contribute to the practice’s commitment to patient care and staff wellbeing
  • Support local community engagement and charity initiatives where appropriate

Requirements

  • Newly qualified veterinary surgeon (graduate) or within first few years of practice
  • Registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
  • Enthusiasm to learn and grow within a supportive team environment
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care and professional conduct
