About the Role

Join Aberdeen Vet Referrals as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in a fast-paced referral setting where your expertise directly impacts patient outcomes. This full-time position offers exposure to advanced cases across orthopaedics, neurology, soft tissue surgery, and medicine—ideal for nurses seeking to expand their clinical knowledge and procedural confidence. You’ll work a 40-hour week across four days, with Saturdays on a 1:4 rota, and enjoy the significant benefit of no out-of-hours or on-call duties, giving you genuine control over your work-life balance. Located in Kingswells on the outskirts of Aberdeen, the practice combines a thriving first-opinion facility with a dedicated referral centre, creating a collaborative environment where learning is actively encouraged.

The referral team works closely with an onsite VetsNow partnership to ensure seamless continuity of overnight care, meaning your daytime focus remains entirely on advanced nursing care and client communication. You’ll have access to cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical equipment, and the practice is investing in a brand-new purpose-built referrals facility with dedicated theatres and consultation rooms—positioning you to shape the future of referral nursing at this expanding centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing support across advanced orthopaedic, neurological, and soft tissue surgical cases
  • Assist with Schedule 3 nursing tasks under veterinary supervision
  • Support medicine cases and diagnostic procedures using modern imaging and laboratory facilities
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, monitoring, and post-operative recovery protocols
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment, working alongside experienced referral veterinarians and support staff
  • Engage in professional development and pursue specialist certificates in your chosen disciplines
  • Communicate effectively with first-opinion veterinarians and client owners regarding patient progress

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
  • Positive, enthusiastic attitude with genuine commitment to patient welfare
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proactive approach to learning and professional development
  • Experience in referral practice beneficial but not essential—the practice welcomes nurses new to referrals into a supportive team environment

The practice is part of IVC Evidensia, one of the UK’s largest veterinary groups, and operates in partnership with VetsNow to ensure 24-hour patient care continuity. The team is currently expanding, with a new purpose-built referrals facility in development featuring state-of-the-art theatres, consultation rooms, and diagnostic equipment.
