About the Role

Aberdeen Veterinary Referrals is seeking a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their established referral team in Aberdeenshire. This full-time position offers a genuine opportunity to develop expertise in advanced surgical and medical cases, including orthopaedic, neurological, and soft tissue procedures. You’ll work a manageable 40-hour week across four days with Saturdays on a 1:4 rota—and importantly, there are no out-of-hours or on-call duties, allowing you to maintain an ideal work-life balance.

You’ll be part of a 30-strong team spread across multiple disciplines, working in a clinic equipped with the latest diagnostic and treatment technology. The practice is currently expanding with plans for a purpose-built referrals facility featuring new theatres and advanced treatment spaces. An onsite partnership with VetsNow provides 24-hour patient care, so you can focus on delivering excellent daytime service without the stress of overnight commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing support across orthopaedic, neurological, and soft tissue surgical cases
  • Assist with advanced medical treatments and diagnostic procedures
  • Perform Schedule 3 nursing tasks under veterinary direction
  • Contribute to a diverse caseload across multiple surgical disciplines
  • Support a team of experienced veterinarians and dedicated staff in delivering high-standard patient care
  • Maintain excellent standards of anaesthesia, pain management, and post-operative care

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Genuine passion for patient care and professional development
  • Positive, proactive approach to learning within a referral team environment
  • Experience in referral work is desirable but not essential—enthusiasm and willingness to learn are equally valued

The practice provides advanced specialist care across orthopaedics, spinal surgery, neurology, oncology, soft tissue surgery, and diagnostic imaging. Operating 24 hours daily with a dedicated 30-strong team, the practice delivers out-of-hours care to referred patients through an onsite partnership with VetsNow.

Part of IVC Evidensia, the practice combines a referral clinic located within a first-opinion facility with access to cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technology. The team is practitioner-led and focused on achieving the best possible patient outcomes from initial consultation through to treatment and aftercare.
