Love surgery but tired of doing the same thing every day? Join a state-of-the-art referral hospital where you'll rotate across surgical, medical and first opinion nursing—gaining broad experience with CT, MRI, orthopaedics and soft tissue work in a genuinely supportive team.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:8 Saturday mornings, shifts scheduled between 7:30 am–7:30 pm

About the Role

You’ll join Abington Park Referrals as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in a genuinely varied position that rotates across referral disciplines and first opinion support. Rather than being locked into one specialty, you’ll float between surgical and medical departments, gaining exposure to orthopaedics, soft tissue, diagnostics, imaging, internal medicine and routine nursing. Your working week will be dynamic—no two days the same—with late shifts involving consults and discharges alongside theatre work.

Based at a state-of-the-art referral hospital in the East Midlands, you’ll work 40 hours weekly across 5 days with shifts between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm, plus 1:8 Saturday mornings. The practice is open to discussing a 4-day week or part-time arrangements for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery, manage surgical kits and assist in anaesthesia across the surgical department
  • Conduct imaging procedures including X-ray, CT and MRI, supporting the advanced diagnostic capabilities

  • Work within a surgical team of 6 RVNs and 3 clinicians handling a diverse and consistently busy caseload of referrals from across the Midlands and beyond
  • Collaborate across departments, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to patient care
  • Contribute to the in-house laboratory and support the specialised medical team as needed

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration
  • Keen interest in surgery and anaesthesia
  • Referral experience ideal, though all experience levels welcome
  • Hands-on approach with genuine enthusiasm for diagnostic imaging and advanced procedures

  • Professional Development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid study time, certificate support, access to IVC Evidensia Academy, Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia, research funding opportunities, Infection Prevention and Control Programme and Quality Improvement Programme
  • Health & Wellbeing: Enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental and surrogacy pay), private medical insurance, cycle to work scheme, discounted gym membership, non-accidental injury support
