True mixed practice in Southwest Scotland with genuine work-life balance and a supportive 10-vet team. From dairy fertility to small animal surgery to equine work—variety every single day, plus manageable on-call and weekends you can actually enjoy.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

2:10 out-of-hours rota (shared with two colleagues always on-call for backup). Occasional Saturday mornings included. Half day on the Friday following first on-call weekend.

About the Role

Academy Vet Centre is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join a thriving mixed practice nestled in Southwest Scotland, where the work is genuinely varied and no two days are the same. You’ll move fluidly between dairy fertility work, small animal consulting and surgery, health planning, fertility testing, and equine care—a true mixed caseload that keeps you engaged and developing across multiple disciplines.

This role runs 5 days per week (8:30am–6:00pm with an hour lunch break) with flexible arrangements to suit your lifestyle. You’ll share out-of-hours duties on a 2:10 rota, plus the occasional Saturday morning, with two vets always on call to provide genuine backup. As a bonus, you’ll get a half day on the Friday following your first on-call weekend—real consideration for your recovery time.

Stranraer and the Galloway region offer plenty for outdoor lovers: local beaches for paddleboarding and the Southern Uplands for walking and camping. The practice also runs a branch in Newton Stewart, giving you flexibility across the area.
