🕐 Schedule & Rota

Five 4.5-hour Saturday shifts required per year (daytime, not overnight on-call)

About the Role

You’ll be joining Alphavet Veterinary Centre as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, splitting your time between their Langstone and Risca branches in Newport. This full-time role offers 38.4 hours per week across Monday to Friday, with just five 4.5-hour Saturday shifts required annually – a genuinely manageable schedule that respects your weekends. The practice brings together five veterinary surgeons, experienced nurses, and a dedicated reception team, with several staff holding RCVS advanced practitioner qualifications and surgical certificates.

You’ll deliver the full spectrum of RVN care: performing surgery, running nurse clinics, managing inpatient care, and conducting laboratory tests. The culture here emphasises personal development and supporting team members in pursuing further qualifications – it’s a place where progression feels genuine, not just promised.

  • Conduct laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures
  • Collaborate with five veterinary surgeons and the nursing team to maintain high standards of patient care
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients across both locations

  • Experience in small animal practice (preferred)
  • Ability to work flexibly across two practice locations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Leave: 6.6 weeks annual leave, plus additional holiday on your birthday
  • Wellbeing: Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption and surrogacy pay; Private Medical Insurance; Cycle to Work scheme; discounted gym membership; non-accidental injury support
  • Professional Development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid pro rata; certificate support; access to IVC Evidensia Academy learning platform; Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia; research funding opportunities; Infection Prevention and Control Programme; Quality Improvement Programme
  • Memberships: VDS cover and RCVS fees covered
  • Additional Benefits: Pawsome Benefits reward gateway (100s of retailer discounts); 5% employee/3% employer pension; discounted staff pet care
