About the Role

Alphavet Veterinary Centre is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their thriving small animal team across their Langstone and Risca branches in Newport, Gwent. This full-time position (38.4 hours per week, Monday to Friday) includes just 5 Saturday shifts annually—genuinely manageable alongside the rest of your life.

You’ll work alongside a dedicated team of five Veterinary Surgeons, including RCVS advanced practitioners and surgical certificate holders, providing hands-on care that makes a real difference. The practice has invested heavily in state-of-the-art facilities and prides itself on longer-than-average consultations, allowing you to deliver thorough, quality nursing care to every patient. You’ll gain exposure to referral work and visiting specialists in dermatology and ophthalmology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of surgical nursing duties, including theatre support and recovery care
  • Run and conduct nurse-led clinics, managing patient assessments and ongoing treatment plans
  • Provide high-quality inpatient care and monitoring across both practice branches
  • Carry out laboratory testing and diagnostic work to support clinical decision-making
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary team and reception staff to ensure exceptional client and patient care
  • Contribute to maintaining the practice’s strong safety culture and quality improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse
  • Proven experience in small animal nursing practice
  • Strong collaborative approach and excellent communication skills
