Join a friendly, stable small animal practice in the heart of the South Downs with genuine work-life balance, certificate holders on staff, and supportive nursing team backing.

About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to join Archway Veterinary Practice, a small animal-focused clinic nestled in the scenic South Downs National Park. You’ll work a manageable 37 hours per week, typically spread over a 4-day week with flexible scheduling to suit your needs. The role combines consulting and surgical work, giving you variety in your daily practice.

The practice is RCVS accredited and well-established with a team of 16 colleagues. You’ll have access to good facilities including ultrasound with cardiac probes, dental X-ray equipment, multi-parameter anaesthetic monitoring, and in-house laboratory services. The team includes certificate holders in ophthalmology and cardiology, and there’s a strong nursing training programme in place with dedicated, supportive colleagues to work alongside.

Consultation times are structured at 15–30 minutes, and the practice ensures you have protected admin and phone time built into your schedule—a genuine commitment to work-life balance that’s increasingly rare in veterinary practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct small animal consultations across a mixed caseload

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (RCVS registered)
  • Small animal clinical experience
  • Forward-thinking, collaborative approach to practice and learning
  • Commitment to best-practice standards and continued professional development

  • Competitive salary up to £63,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with buy/sell holiday scheme to purchase up to 2 additional weeks)
  • Extra day’s leave each year for your first 5 years at CVS
  • RCVS, VDS, and subscription fees fully paid
  • Generous, fully funded CPD with access to internal and external development courses
  • Cycle to work scheme and subsidised gym membership
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Automatic pension scheme enrolment (completely hassle-free)
  • Access to First Aid for Mental Health and Wellbeing Champions, with 300+ trained colleagues across CVS
