Ready for a role where you'll actually have time for lunch AND develop junior team members? This Bathford practice offers full clinical autonomy with zero OOH and a supportive culture that genuinely invests in people.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours shifts. Saturday consults on a 1:5 rota (9am–3pm consultations only).

About the Role

Join Ashman Jones in Bathford as a Veterinary Surgeon where clinical excellence meets genuine work-life balance. This is a full-time or part-time opportunity with no out-of-hours commitments—consult shifts run 9am–5:30pm or 9am–6:30pm, with operating hours 8am–5pm. You’ll benefit from pleasantly paced 15-minute consultation slots built into the schedule, giving you breathing room for case work-up, reporting, and yes, a proper lunch break.

The practice operates across three Bath sites, including a purpose-built facility that opened in March 2026. The team is small but highly clinical, with vets holding interests and certificates in surgery, medicine, dermatology, and cardiology. You’ll work alongside experienced nurses passionate about surgical and anaesthetic support. There’s a genuine emphasis on evidenced-based, step-wise in-house case work-ups—you’ll develop cases thoroughly before specialist referral when needed, and follow cases through for continuity and team learning.

For the right candidate, there’s a clear pathway into a lead vet role, and support for professional development is central to how this practice operates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care across small animal medicine and surgery in a first-opinion setting
  • Conduct consultations and procedures using the practice’s modern diagnostic equipment (digital X-ray, ultrasound with cardiac probe, in-house laboratory facilities, dental X-ray with IM3 machine)
  • Lead in-house case work-ups collaboratively with the nursing team and fellow vets
  • Mentor and support junior team members as part of the practice’s commitment to staff development
  • Contribute to the practice’s culture of evidence-based medicine and continuing case learning
  • Work flexibly between the practice’s three Bath locations as needed

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS)
  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience
  • All-round small animal experience
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and supporting colleagues at all career stages
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and collaborative case development
  • Full-time or part-time applications considered

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £65,000 DOE (full-time equivalent for part-time applicants)
  • Work-life balance: No out-of-hours shifts; only 1:5 Saturday consults (9am–3pm)
  • Holiday: 6.6 weeks annual leave
  • Sick leave: Enhanced sick leave pay
  • Pension: Contributory pension scheme
  • Professional support: Paid memberships (RCVS, BVA, VDS)
  • CPD: Generous allowance with minimum 5 paid days per year plus £1,000 annual budget
  • Professional development: Funding and support towards veterinary certificates
  • Flexibility: Flexible working hours available
