Ready to join a practice where nursing is truly valued? Avonvale offers full nurse utilisation, advanced case variety, and a genuinely supportive team—including one colleague with 35 years of loyalty.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:13 weekend rota, 1:10 nights rota, 1:8 Saturday afternoon rota, 1:7 Saturday mornings (branch dependent). Candidate can choose between nights or weekends. All out-of-hours shifts based at Warwick hospital.

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position based at Avonvale Veterinary Centres in Stratford, working 40 hours per week. You’ll be joining a group of seven primary care practices across Warwickshire, established over 40 years, where small animal nursing is taken seriously and nurses are given real clinical responsibility.

The role includes some out-of-hours work on a manageable rota: 1:13 weekends, 1:10 nights, 1:8 Saturday afternoons, and 1:7 Saturday mornings (branch dependent). You can choose between nights or weekends, and all out-of-hours shifts are based at the Warwick hospital. You’ll need your own transport and a self-motivated approach to developing your skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver full nursing care across a wide variety of cases—from routine to advanced procedures—thanks to the team’s multiple certificate holders in surgery, imaging, and medicine
  • Run nurse-led consults as part of your regular schedule, not just supportive nursing duties
  • Support Schedule 3 controlled drugs administration and monitoring
  • Work alongside Patient Care Assistants to maintain the highest standards of patient care
  • Contribute to a nursing team with diverse interests including anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, and behaviour—opportunities to specialise and grow
  • Out-of-hours nursing duties on a shared rota, either nights or weekends depending on your preference

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Own transport (essential for out-of-hours and branch-based work)
  • Self-motivated with a genuine commitment to skill development
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team

Benefits

  • Competitive salary from £29,000 per annum (depending on experience)
  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • External CPD funded, plus extensive free Linnaeus CPD programme delivered by specialists and referral teams (online and in-person)
  • Nurse certificate funding
  • Private healthcare
  • Enhanced sickness pay
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • Wellness programme: employee assistance programme, eyecare vouchers, free annual flu jab, cycle-to-work scheme
  • Staff discount schemes
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Recruitment reward scheme
  • Mental Health First Aider support and confidential employee assistance available

About the Practice

Avonvale Veterinary Centres is part of Linnaeus, a forward-thinking partnership of primary care and referral practices across the UK and Ireland. The group comprises highly-respected clinicians united by a commitment to excellence and their purpose: a better world for pets. Avonvale itself operates seven primary care practices across Warwickshire with over 40 years’ experience in small animal medicine.

The nursing team is a particular strength: experienced, skilled, and genuinely engaged with their work. Multiple team members hold specialist certificates, and the practice prides itself on high nurse utilisation—meaning you’ll be doing real clinical nursing work, not just assisting. The team benefits from strong longevity (one colleague has been with the practice for 35 years) and a supportive culture where your development is actively encouraged.
