Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal

About the Role

You’ll join a busy, well-established small animal practice nestled in the village of Pinhoe, just outside Exeter city centre—close enough for easy commuting, but with plenty of countryside appeal nearby. This is a fully equipped single-site practice with a genuinely family-like atmosphere where long-standing staff work alongside newer team members with real warmth and collaboration.

The role is available as full-time, part-time, or flexible hours to suit the right candidate. There’s no out-of-hours night rota to worry about; you’ll only cover one Saturday morning in a three-week cycle, which can be taken as a half day or flexed into your weekly hours. This is the kind of work-life balance that actually works.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage your own small animal caseload with full clinical autonomy and strong support from the practice’s experienced nursing team
• Deliver primary care medicine and surgery for dogs, cats, rabbits and small pets
• Work alongside an excellent in-house nursing team—many of whom have been with the practice for years—providing outstanding clinical support
• Support your colleagues’ surgical interests while developing your own clinical interests and specialisms
• Access nearby referral centres when complex cases need specialist opinion
• Contribute to a genuinely collaborative team environment where clinical cases are discussed and learning is valued

Requirements

• Qualified veterinary surgeon registered with the RCVS
• Experience in small animal practice (the practice welcomes vets with surgery interests to support the team)
• Genuine commitment to CPD and career development
• Professional, collaborative approach to working within a team
