About the Role

This is your opportunity to bring nursing leadership to a busy, growing small animal practice in Oldbury. As Lead RVN, you’ll take ownership of nursing standards and patient pathways while working collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Manager and wider team. On a 37.5-hour week with 1-in-5 weekends, you’ll have the autonomy to drive improvements in how patients flow through the practice—from admission to discharge—while ensuring every team member has the support they need to excel.

You’ll combine hands-on nursing duties with strategic oversight, identifying training needs, optimising workflows, and championing practice policies that deliver outstanding patient and client care. This is a role for someone who communicates clearly, stays organised under pressure, and thrives when given real responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead nursing standards across the practice and oversee day-to-day patient flow management
  • Work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager to identify team development needs and support nursing staff progression
  • Organise and optimise patient pathways to ensure clinical efficiency and adherence to practice and group policies
  • Take responsibility for a specific area of practice operations, ensuring high-quality protocols are maintained
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and work collaboratively with the clinical and leadership teams
  • Support the practice’s continued growth through effective nursing management and clinical excellence

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop team members
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work with autonomy in a busy environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to maintaining high clinical standards and practice policies

Benefits

  • Leave: 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays, plus birthday leave
  • Professional Development: RCVS and VDS fees paid; external CPD funded; extensive free online Linnaeus CPD programme
  • Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme (confidential); Mental Health First Aiders across the practice; eyecare voucher scheme; free annual flu jab
  • Financial & Lifestyle: Life assurance; enhanced sickness pay; enhanced equal family leave; e-car salary sacrifice scheme; cycle to work scheme
  • Other Perks: Staff discount schemes; recruitment referral reward scheme; career progression opportunities
