About the Role
This is a full-time, fixed-term training position designed to support you through your Level 3 veterinary nursing qualification whilst working as a Student Veterinary Nurse. You’ll join Boundary Vets, an established practice serving the local community for over 40 years, where an experienced and stable team creates a genuinely supportive environment for trainees.
Working under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor and experienced nursing staff, you’ll develop practical nursing skills across all areas of the practice. You’ll work full-time in a small animal setting, with protected time to maximise your training opportunities and work-based assessments. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake general nursing duties across clinical and non-clinical areas, developing your skills in line with your formalised training programme and RCVS Day One Skills competencies
- Deliver high-quality patient care under veterinary and nursing supervision, including anaesthesia support, hospitalisation care, and clinical procedures
- Maintain accurate clinical records including anaesthetic sheets, hospitalisation forms, and patient notes
- Support infection control protocols and maintain clinical standards across practice premises and patient areas
- Contribute to an outstanding client experience through clear communication, informed consent processes, and professional interactions
- Work collaboratively with the veterinary team, nursing staff, patient care assistants, and client care teams to deliver efficient, quality service
- Engage with practice audits, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives including RCVS Practice Standards and ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic accreditation
- Participate in Linnaeus student support and networking opportunities for continued professional development
- Support practice operations including stock management, correct charging procedures, and health & safety compliance
Requirements
- Entry requirements met for Level 3 veterinary nursing qualification
- Minimum 12 months’ experience working with animals
- Previous experience working within a veterinary practice (desirable)
- Evidence of completion of previous training such as Patient Care Assistant training or Level 2 animal care qualification (desirable)
- Good understanding of animal welfare and handling
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Team player with ability to work under pressure and multitask
- Highly organised and proactive
- Confident with IT packages, email, practice management systems, and internet browsers
- Reliable, hard-working, and able to take instruction and feedback constructively
- Basic administration skills and experience dealing with clients
