About the Role

Bramble and Bear is launching an exciting new chapter with the opening of a state-of-the-art Hospital and Rehab Centre this autumn, and they’re building a dedicated night team. You’ll join an experienced, forward-thinking practice as a night vet, working 7 nights on, 14 nights off (8 pm to 8 am), with structured handovers to ensure seamless case continuity with the day team. Weekend-only night shifts are also considered for the right candidate.

Whether you already have Emergency and Critical Care experience or a strong interest in ECC along with the confidence to manage emergency cases, you’ll find a varied caseload and the support to pursue further qualifications if you wish. The practice actively encourages professional development and will fund your certificates of interest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and critical care to small animal patients throughout night shifts (8 pm to 8 am)
  • Manage a varied caseload using the hospital’s fully equipped facilities: two theatres, dedicated dental suite, and imaging suite with DR X-ray, Doppler ultrasound, and endoscopy
  • Conduct thorough handovers with the day team at the beginning and end of each shift to maintain continuity of care
  • Work as part of a collaborative team including three RVNs and support staff, led by experienced practice owners with ECC interests
  • Contribute to the team’s commitment to Fear-Free practices and high-standard patient welfare
  • Support post-operative care and patient recovery, utilising the new Rehab Centre facilities (underwater treadmill, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy)

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (MRCVS or equivalent)
  • Experience in or genuine interest in Emergency and Critical Care with confidence managing emergency cases
  • Ability to work night shifts independently within a supportive framework
  • Professional approach to patient care and client communication

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £60,000–£85,000 depending on experience
  • Uncapped CPD budget with full support and funding for certificates
  • Professional fees covered: RCVS, VDS, BVA/BSAVA memberships
  • Bupa private healthcare
  • Supportive, friendly team environment with regular social events (team drinks, celebrations, outdoor activities)
  • Access to world-class facilities: two fully equipped theatres, dental suite, advanced imaging, and rehabilitation centre
  • Mentorship from experienced owners with ECC interests and proven track record in developing junior vets

About the Practice

Bramble and Bear Vet Care was founded just over three years ago by experienced vets Dr Matt Bayliss MRCVS and Dr Hannah Brooks MRCVS, who shared a vision to create a forward-thinking practice where high-quality care and team wellbeing thrive together. The practice began as a mobile surgical unit and has evolved rapidly, opening their first hub in the Staffordshire Moorlands by September 2023. They’re now launching a dedicated Hospital and Rehab Centre on their farm site, featuring two theatres, specialist dental and imaging suites, separate cat and dog wards (Fear-Free accredited), and comprehensive rehabilitation facilities including hydrotherapy and underwater treadmill.

The team includes two practice owner-vets, a Head RVN (Anna) with feline nursing credentials, three RVNs, and SVN trainees, plus visits from an orthopaedic surgeon. The practice is known for transparent, fixed-cost pricing and free consultations, creating strong client relationships. Located in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands near Leek, the practice benefits from a peaceful farm setting with excellent transport links to Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham—all within an hour’s drive. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away for weekend adventures.
