About the Role

This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week) with no out-of-hours commitments and a manageable 1:5 weekend rota. You’ll join Carmarthen Veterinary Centre as part of a collaborative clinical team in a purpose-built, award-winning hospital serving the heart of West Wales.

The role offers a flexible consult and surgery mix, with full support for developing your clinical interests. Whether you’re confident with general surgery and want to deepen that skill set, or prefer consult-only work, the practice is open to tailoring the role to suit you. A surgical background is particularly valued as the team builds its surgical capability. You’ll be encouraged to contribute to clinical discussions and decision-making in a forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality clinical consultations and general surgical procedures
  • Work as part of a team of 8 small animal vets, supporting collaborative case management
  • Contribute to the hospital’s caseload of complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries, exotic and wildlife cases
  • Participate in clinical discussions and help shape service development
  • Support the nursing and wider support team in delivering outstanding patient care
  • Engage with ongoing professional development and training opportunities

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years’ post-qualification experience as a veterinary surgeon
  • Confidence and competence in small animal consultations and general surgery
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative clinical team
  • Surgical experience and interest preferred (though not essential)
  • Full UK veterinary registration or eligible for registration
  • International candidates welcome – visa sponsorship and relocation packages available

The team comprises 8 small animal vets, supported by experienced nursing and administrative staff. The hospital is well-equipped with modern facilities including a recently installed CT scanner, strengthening diagnostic capabilities across the range of cases handled.

The practice holds RCVS accreditation and has been recognised with Outstanding awards for In-patient Service, Client Service, and Good rating for Patient Consultation Service.
