About the Role

This is a dedicated out-of-hours veterinary position within a purpose-built, award-winning hospital in the heart of West Wales. You’ll be joining a dynamic ECC team providing emergency and critical care during overnight hours, working a 7-shift rota spread across a 6-week cycle. The role offers a genuine mix of emergency consults and surgery, with scope to develop your clinical interests within a supportive, collaborative environment. On-site accommodation is available for your nights on if needed, making the rota manageable and practical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency and critical care during out-of-hours shifts as part of the dedicated OOH team
  • Conduct emergency consultations and manage acute presentations across small animal species
  • Perform emergency and general surgical procedures, supported by a skilled nursing and support team
  • Work collaboratively with 4 other ECC veterinary surgeons in a collegial, case-discussion focused environment
  • Contribute to clinical decision-making and be involved in ongoing service development
  • Utilise state-of-the-art facilities including the newly installed CT scanner for diagnostic support

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ veterinary experience, with confidence in emergency consultations and general surgery
  • Current RCVS registration
  • Experience or genuine interest in emergency and critical care work
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative clinical team
  • Willingness to engage in clinical discussions and support service development

Carmarthen Veterinary Centre is a purpose-built, award-winning small animal hospital located in West Wales. The practice is RCVS accredited and holds Outstanding ratings for In-patient Service and Client Service, plus a Good rating for Patient Consultation Service. The team comprises 4 dedicated ECC veterinary surgeons alongside a fantastic nursing and support team who work collaboratively to deliver exceptional patient care.

The hospital is well-equipped with advanced diagnostic facilities, including a recently installed CT scanner. The practice handles a genuinely wide range of cases, including complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries, exotics, and wildlife cases, creating an intellectually stimulating environment for clinical development.
