£28,500 – £30,000/yr
London, London
Full Time, Part Time
Join a charity making a real difference to London's animal welfare – hands-on nursing work with rescued cats, varied surgical cases, and the chance to truly use all your skills.

About the Role

You’ll be part of Celia Hammond Animal Trust’s East London Centre, a busy welfare hub dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming cats across the capital. This is genuine hands-on nursing work – not routine admin – where your clinical skills and initiative will be valued every day.

Working with rescued, feral and owned animals, you’ll nurse abused and unwanted cats back to health, support referrals from private vets facing difficult decisions, and care for animals on low incomes. The centre is well-equipped, and you’ll have access to a varied medical and surgical caseload that keeps the role rewarding and challenging.

This role offers part-time or full-time options, with hours negotiable based on your experience and circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical nursing care for rescued, feral and owned cats at the East London Centre
  • Support surgical and medical procedures across a varied caseload
  • Contribute to rehabilitation and welfare aims of the charity
  • Work with referred cases from private practices and community clients on low incomes
  • Take initiative in improving animal welfare outcomes
  • Maintain high standards of nursing care in a busy rescue environment

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse qualification
  • Strong veterinary experience and demonstrable passion for animal welfare
  • Previous shelter medicine experience is desirable but not essential
  • Initiative and ability to work independently within a team

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £30,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time)
  • Pension scheme
  • CPD allowance of £500 per annum
  • Paid membership of VDS (Veterinary Defence Society)
  • Opportunity to develop skills across diverse medical and surgical cases
  • Single person accommodation may be available

About the Practice

Celia Hammond Animal Trust (CHAT) operates the East London Centre in Canning Town, a dedicated facility for veterinary care, rescue and rehoming. The charity serves London’s animal welfare needs, providing care to rescued and feral cats alongside supporting owned animals from families on low incomes and referrals from private veterinary practices.

CHAT is a values-driven organisation committed to improving animal welfare and giving second chances to unwanted and abused animals. The team environment encourages initiative and professional development in a well-equipped centre.
