Looking for a practice that respects your work-life balance? Join Chapelfield's supportive team in Wymondham where you'll enjoy daytime-only work, no out-of-hours shifts, and a genuine culture of collaboration across five Norfolk sites.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours work required. Saturday rota limited to 1 in 4 mornings maximum.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership’s modern Wymondham branch as a Veterinary Surgeon, working daytime hours only with no out-of-hours commitments and Saturday mornings limited to no more than 1 in 4. This is a small animal practice with a real appetite for supporting clinical development, whether that’s through certificate work, surgical interests, or expanding knowledge in emerging areas like exotic animal care.

Your typical week will balance consulting and surgery roughly 75% and 25% respectively. Cases range from routine consultations and preventative care through to more complex surgical procedures including lump removals, laparotomies, BOAS and TECA procedures, and orthopaedic work. You’ll have the flexibility to tailor your caseload to your strengths and interests, and there’s strong encouragement for those studying towards or considering a veterinary certificate. Wymondham itself is a charming historic market town in Norfolk, offering excellent transport links including direct trains to Norwich and London, combining rural tranquility with genuine accessibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical care across a varied small animal caseload including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and occasional exotic species
  • Conduct veterinary consultations, clinical examinations, and diagnostic procedures using in-house facilities
  • Perform surgical procedures from routine procedures through to complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team of 19 small animal vets and 21 registered veterinary nurses across the five-practice group
  • Support the practice’s community engagement, including weekly operating days with Dogs Trust and work with animal welfare organisations
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing and case discussion across the Chapelfield group sites
  • Participate in the practice’s quality improvement and infection prevention programmes

Requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon (UK or eligible for UK registration)
  • Valid Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • Passion for small animal medicine and surgery
  • Willingness to engage with the practice’s culture of supportive collaboration and continuous learning
  • Interest in clinical development (certificate work is supported but not required)

Benefits

  • Salary & Bonus: Up to £65,000 depending on experience, plus welcome bonus up to £5,000
  • Annual Leave: 6.6 weeks inclusive of bank holidays, plus additional holiday on your birthday
  • CPD & Development: £1,250 annual CPD allowance with 40 hours paid CPD leave (pro rata), certificate support, access to IVC Evidensia Academy, Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia, and research funding opportunities
  • Health & Wellbeing: Private medical insurance, 24/7 employee assistance programme, enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental and surrogacy pay)
  • Professional Support: BVA membership, VDS cover, and RCVS fees covered
  • Pension & Financial: Company pension scheme with employer contribution, cycle to work scheme, green cars scheme, voluntary benefits package with retailer discounts
  • Colleague Perks: Discounted treatment for your own pets at any IVC Evidensia practice, £1,250 annual Care Fund allowance
  • Flexible Working: Flexible working patterns that genuinely adapt to your lifestyle and personal commitments

About the Practice

Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership is a modern, purpose-built small animal practice serving Wymondham and part of a close-knit group of five established sites across Norfolk (Norwich, Long Stratton, Wymondham, Costessey, and Brooke). The practice operates as part of IVC Evidensia, a leading veterinary healthcare group. The Wymondham branch is a bright, spacious facility designed with both patients and staff wellbeing in mind, featuring digital radiography, modern ultrasound with Doppler capability, new iM3 dental X-ray equipment, three large consult rooms (with a fourth planned), dedicated prep area and imaging suite, two fully equipped theatres with multiparameter monitors, separate cat and dog waiting areas, kennels, and a peaceful cattery (ISFM accreditation in progress). The in-house lab includes IDEXX haematology and biochemistry analysers, urine analyser, and full microscopy facilities for blood smears, fine needle aspirates, and cytology.

The wider team includes 19 small animal vets with certificate holders in dermatology, ophthalmology, and orthopaedics, plus others currently studying feline medicine, imaging, and cardiology. The nursing team of 21 RVNs is equally invested in development, with one Head Nurse currently undertaking an anaesthesia certificate. The practice is deeply embedded in the local community, running weekly operating days with Dogs Trust and supporting Cats Protection League, Venture Farm, and other welfare organisations.
