1 in 4 Saturdays or Sundays in Huntingdon (9-hour shifts, hours vary 7.30am–7.00pm). Weekend cover is part of the rotating shift pattern.

About the Role

This is a part-time receptionist position offering 19.5 hours per week across a rotating shift pattern. You’ll be the welcoming hub of Cromwell Vets St Neots, the first point of contact for clients and their pets. The role combines front-desk duties with administrative support, and you’ll occasionally assist clinicians during consultations—getting hands-on experience across the practice.

The shift pattern alternates weekly, with consistent Monday evening hours, varying Tuesday and Friday slots, and rotating weekend cover (1 in 4 Saturdays or Sundays in Huntingdon, 9-hour shifts). A valid driving licence is essential, as you’ll need to be flexible to cover across Cromwell’s multiple branches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome clients and pets upon arrival in a warm, professional manner
  • Answer telephones with clarity, empathy and confidence, resolving enquiries efficiently
  • Manage appointment diaries to ensure smooth scheduling of veterinary and nursing consultations
  • Handle cash and till operations, including debt management and chasing outstanding balances
  • Process administrative tasks: email enquiries, online booking requests, and general office support
  • Occasionally assist during consultations with animal handling for blood samples, euthanasia support, and other clinical procedures

Requirements

  • Valid UK driving licence (essential)
  • Flexibility to cover shifts across all Cromwell Vets branches
  • Strong administration and organisation skills
  • Confident telephone manner
  • Reception or client care experience
  • Competence with cash handling and till operation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook as a minimum
  • Previous veterinary or medical surgery experience (desirable, not essential)
