About the Role

Davies Veterinary Specialists is seeking a Finance Administrator to join its busy referral centre, reporting to the Finance Manager. You’ll be at the heart of the practice’s financial operations, handling everything from daily takings reconciliation to client insurance claims—working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

This full-time position is based at Manor Farm Business Park in Higham Gobion, nestled in the beautiful Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire countryside, just 50 minutes from London by train. You’ll work 40 hours per week with Saturday cover on a rota basis (approximately 1 in 6-8 weeks), supporting the clinical teams and clients of one of Europe’s largest small animal referral centres.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile daily takings and maintain accurate financial records
  • Process billing, sales charges, and client payments
  • Assess and submit insurance claims promptly, including direct claims where clinical history review is needed
  • Handle client finance and insurance queries—both verbal and written communication—guiding policyholders through the claims process and keeping them informed
  • Ensure timely payment of insurance shortfalls, excess amounts, and co-payment liabilities
  • Manage credit control for outstanding payments and insurer settlements
  • Conduct telephone and face-to-face discussions with clients to resolve billing matters

Requirements

  • Proven experience in finance administration, billing, or a similar role
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency with financial systems and data entry
  • Customer service mindset with the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions professionally
