No weekday out-of-hours requirement. Weekend duty cover: 1-in-8 rota on Saturday and Sunday 8:00am–7:00pm with TOIL as a paid day the following week; every other Saturday 8:00am–1:00pm with TOIL provided the week before.

About the Role

Deane Vets is seeking a friendly and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a busy, well-loved small animal practice in Taunton. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term maternity cover position with potential to extend, working 40 hours per week across shifts between 8:00am and 7:00pm. The role comes with no weekday out-of-hours requirement—weekend duty cover is on a 1-in-8 rota with time off in lieu (TOIL) given as a paid day the following week, plus every other Saturday morning shift from 8:00am to 1:00pm with TOIL provided in the week before.

You’ll be part of a supportive and experienced team of seven RVNs at a practice with a loyal client base and a genuine commitment to high-quality, compassionate care. The practice actively encourages nurses to use their skills to the fullest potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care across a range of small animal cases (dogs, cats, and small pets including rabbits)
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary team and the wider nursing department of seven RVNs
  • Support surgical procedures, clinical examinations, and patient diagnostics
  • Contribute to patient welfare and comfort throughout their time at the practice
  • Participate in the practice’s infection prevention and quality improvement programmes

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Experience in small animal nursing practice
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care and welfare
