1:6 weekend rota (8:00am–7:00pm) with RVN support. Rotas thoughtfully planned to ensure healthy work-life balance.

About the Role

Deane Vets is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join their busy, welcoming small animal practice in Taunton. You’ll enjoy a balanced mix of consultations and surgery, with flexibility available for those who prefer consult-only work. Every day brings something different—from routine procedures to more varied cases—with a strong emphasis on delivering compassionate, high-quality care.

This is a genuinely supportive environment where you’ll have experienced vets on hand to mentor you, the space to develop at your own pace, and encouragement to pursue your clinical interests.

Recently refurbished and purpose-built, the practice sits close to Taunton’s main high street and is well-equipped with ultrasound, dental X-ray, DR X-ray (SignalPET), full in-house lab, microscopy and cytology—giving you the tools to deliver excellent care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver primary care across a varied small animal caseload including dogs, cats, rabbits, small furries and even the occasional tortoise
  • Balance consultations and surgical work, with a largely routine surgical caseload (dentals, lump removals, soft tissue procedures)
  • Work cases thoroughly, building clinical confidence with continuity of care where possible
  • Collaborate with a team of five vets, eight RVNs and a client care team to maintain high clinical standards
  • Support the development of colleagues and contribute positively to clinical culture
  • Develop your own clinical interests with practice support for certificate training

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree and current RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
  • Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Proactive approach to learning with openness to feedback and professional development
  • Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Benefits

  • Salary: up to £70,000 depending on experience, plus up to £5,000 welcome bonus and up to £5,000 relocation allowance
  • 6.6 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays
  • £1,250 annual Care Fund for professional development
  • Private medical insurance
  • Enhanced family leave and pay (maternity, paternity, adoption, surrogacy)
  • BVA membership, VDS cover and RCVS fees covered
  • Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies)
  • Retail discounts and cashback offers
  • Reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets
  • Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches and peer networks
  • Funded CPD and access to IVC Academy training centres
