About the Role

Eastcott Veterinary Hospital and Referrals is looking for an experienced and professional receptionist to join their friendly and supportive team. This part-time role offers 20 hours per week across specific shifts: Saturday mornings and afternoons (8.15am–4.15pm), Sunday evenings (2.15pm–8.15pm), and Monday 8.am- 12pm.

You’ll be the first point of contact for clients and visitors, creating the image and impression of the hospital. Working within a referral practice environment, you’ll need to remain calm, courteous, and professional at all times, making clients feel confident in the service and at ease if they’re worried or apprehensive about their pet’s care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arranging appointments and managing the appointment schedule
  • Keeping accurate patient records and maintaining confidentiality
  • Performing clerical duties related to animal patient care and treatment
  • Facilitating accurate communication between clients, veterinary surgeons, nursing staff, and the practice manager
  • Processing insurance claims for direct payment and on behalf of clients
  • Demonstrating practical knowledge of the practice’s organisation, services, and standard procedures
  • Recognising emergency situations and responding appropriately
  • Accurately transcribing information, messages, and veterinary terminology

Requirements

  • Experience in a veterinary or similar reception environment
  • Professional communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Practical knowledge of veterinary patient care, treatment basics, and emergency recognition
  • Accuracy in record-keeping and information transcription
  • Familiarity with veterinary terminology and standard practice procedures
  • Understanding of dispensing restrictions and visitor regulations
  • Flexibility to work the specified Saturday, Sunday, and Monday shifts
