No out-of-hours cover required. 1 in 3 Saturday shifts only (daytime). Practice closed Sundays.

About the Role

This is a rewarding permanent position offering genuine flexibility: work 30-40 hours per week across either 9am-6pm or 10am-7pm shifts, with the option to compress into 4 days if preferred. You’ll cover just 1 in 3 Saturdays, and there’s absolutely no out-of-hours commitment—no nights, no emergency callouts. The practice is closed on Sundays, so your downtime is genuinely yours.

The clinic is equipped to a high standard with digital X-ray, ultrasound with Doppler, growing orthopaedic capabilities, separate dog and cat wards, and three consultation rooms. Peripatetic orthopaedic and cardiac specialists visit regularly, enabling more advanced surgical work within the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive small animal general practice medicine and surgery across cats, dogs, rabbits and small furries
  • Conduct 15-minute standard consultations (or 30 minutes for puppy vaccinations and new client appointments)
  • Work collaboratively within a team of 3 vets, 3 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 2 VCAs and dedicated support staff
  • Contribute to the practice’s reputation for exceptional patient care and strong client relationships
  • Engage with the practice’s community-centred approach to healthcare
  • Support the practice’s approved nurse training centre status where relevant

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with broad-based GP experience
  • Confidence across all aspects of everyday small animal medicine and surgery
  • Strong clinical skills and genuine interest in building lasting client relationships
  • Team-focused approach; ability to thrive in a collaborative environment

  • Competitive salary up to £65,000 (depending on experience; full-time equivalent)
  • Zero out-of-hours—no emergency or night shifts
  • Part-time and flexible hours available (30-40 hours, with 4-day week option)
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Paid professional memberships (BVA, RCVS, VDS)
  • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays (full-time equivalent)
  • Dedicated CPD allowance
