Full Time
Dedicated OOH
Join Equicall's expanding remote team and enjoy genuinely shared out-of-hours work across the UK's equine clinics. Work week-on, week-off with full accommodation covered—perfect if you want interesting cases without the burnout.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Week-on, week-off rota (25 weeks per annum) at most locations. Winchester offers Monday–Thursday only with additional locum and weekend cover available. Shared on-call duties across multiple clinics with 35+ experienced vets.

About the Role

Equicall is a dedicated remote out-of-hours equine service caring for horses throughout the UK. You’ll be joining an established group of 35+ experienced OOH vets, sharing on-call duties across multiple clinics in different regions. Vacancies are available in Buckinghamshire, East Kent, Manchester, South Hampshire, Yorkshire, and Winchester—each offering week-on, week-off patterns (except Winchester, which offers Monday-Thursday rotations with additional locum and weekend options).

This is ideal if you’re seeking variety, interesting equine cases, and strong collegial support. The rota structure is designed to alleviate pressure: you’ll have substantial downtime between shifts, and accommodation and subsistence are fully covered when working away from home. This remote working model means you’re not anchored to one practice, giving you flexibility to explore different regions while building a national network of equine specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide out-of-hours emergency and overnight equine veterinary care across multiple clinics in the UK
  • Work within a coordinated rota system, sharing on-call duties with 35+ experienced equine vets
  • Manage interesting and challenging equine cases with access to experienced colleagues for support and discussion
  • Maintain high clinical standards and thorough case documentation
  • Contribute to continuity of care by communicating effectively with day-practice colleagues
  • Participate in flexible working patterns; part-time considered for South Hampshire

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years post-qualification equine veterinary experience
  • Current UK veterinary registration
  • Strong clinical skills and confidence in equine emergency situations
  • Ability to work independently while valuing collegial support
  • Flexibility to work rotating week-on, week-off schedules (or alternative patterns at Winchester)
  • Willingness to relocate seasonally or temporarily to different UK regions

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £40,000–£57,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
  • Accommodation and subsistence fully covered when working away from home
  • CPD funding with encouragement to pursue certificates and continuous learning
  • Flexible working arrangements and substantial downtime between shifts
  • Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, and Adoption Leave policy
  • 6% Employer Contribution Pension Scheme
  • ‘Save As You Earn’ (SAYE) scheme
  • Generous staff discount on veterinary bills and pet care products
  • Employee Assistance Programme (via Heath Assured) for mental health and wellbeing support
  • Free HealthShield cash plan covering opticians, dentists, and dermatology
  • Critical Illness Cover and Life Insurance schemes (competitively priced)
  • Private Medical Insurance option available
  • Fully funded visa sponsorship if required

About the Practice

Equicall is a specialist remote out-of-hours equine service operating across the UK, part of CVS Group and Mars Veterinary Health. The service is built on the principle of shared, sustainable on-call work—moving away from the traditional sole-charge OOH model. With a team of 35+ experienced equine vets and a growing network across the country, Equicall offers interesting casework, genuine peer support, and a structured rota designed to prevent burnout.

The practice is expanding and actively seeking equine vets who are enthusiastic about out-of-hours work and willing to embrace flexible, region-rotating placements. You’ll find a supportive culture that values clinical excellence, continuous learning, and work-life balance.
