About the Role

Eye Vet is a dedicated specialist ophthalmology referral practice seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its established team in Sutton Weaver, Cheshire. You’ll work alongside a large, friendly nursing team of 8 RVNs and 2 Patient Care Assistants, with no reception responsibilities—allowing you to focus entirely on clinical nursing. No prior ophthalmology experience is required; comprehensive induction and training will be provided.

This role offers excellent work-life balance: you’ll work 4 days per week from 8:00am to 6:30pm with every Tuesday off. The team operates a 1:8 weekend on-call rota (called in only if needed by the ophthalmologist) with generous out-of-hours payments per case. You’ll rotate through varied working areas including prep, theatre, recovery, procedures, and consultations—keeping your daily work engaging and dynamic.

Located just off the M56 near Liverpool, Manchester, and North Wales, Eye Vet benefits from multi-disciplinary support from Northwest Veterinary Specialists and Liverpool University’s small animal teaching hospital. The practice treats referrals from primary-care veterinary practices across the North West and North Wales, and also provides off-site treatment for animals including those at Chester Zoo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provision of comprehensive patient care through all general nursing duties within the practice
  • Clinical duties including patient admission and discharge, provision of perioperative medications, assistance with anaesthesia induction, anaesthesia monitoring, patient preparation for surgery, theatre assistance, patient recovery, and instrument cleaning and care
  • Work across multiple clinical areas: prep, theatre, recovery, procedures, and consultations
  • Contribute to gold standard patient care delivery in a specialist ophthalmology setting

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration (RCVS)
  • Positive attitude with ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain high attention to detail
  • Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Understanding of capnography and multiparameter monitors (NIBP, IVPB, capnography, ECG), ventilators
  • Referral practice experience preferable (but not essential)
