Fancy joining a vibrant small animal team where your nursing skills are truly valued? Fivelands in Moseley offers zero out-of-hours work, a supportive 10-strong RVN team, and the chance to work across dentistry, theatre, consultations, and inpatient care with brilliant equipment.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours work required. Standard rota includes Saturday mornings (1:4 pattern, 8:30am–5:30pm).

About the Role

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave, offering a hands-on nursing position in a busy small animal practice. You’ll work across all aspects of small animal nursing—theatre procedures, nurse consultations, inpatient care, and dental work—with no out-of-hours commitment whatsoever. The role is primarily based at the main Moseley branch, just outside Birmingham city centre, which is the practice’s busiest and most vibrant site.

Every day brings variety. You’ll be actively encouraged to develop your nursing scope, including performing Stage 1 dentals and dental radiography. With strong clinical equipment on site (dental X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopic facilities) and referral-level services available, you’ll have excellent learning opportunities alongside a genuinely supportive team culture.

The practice operates a straightforward rota: full-time is 40 hours per week with a mix of shift patterns (8:00am–7:30pm, 8:00am–2:00pm, and 8:00am–4:30pm), plus a 1 in 4 Saturday rota (8:30am–5:30pm). Part-time or job-share arrangements are welcomed if that suits you better.

Key Responsibilities

  • Theatre nursing and surgical support
  • Conducting nurse consultations and providing inpatient care
  • Dental procedures including Stage 1 dentals and dental radiography
  • Reception duties as part of the rotating rota
  • Contributing to a wide range of procedures across the practice’s small animal caseload
  • Working as part of a 10-strong RVN team across three sites

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
  • Enthusiasm for small animal nursing and commitment to high patient care standards
  • Team-oriented mindset and willingness to support colleagues
  • Flexibility to work the agreed rota including Saturday mornings

Benefits

  • Work-life balance: 6.6 weeks annual leave inclusive of bank holidays, with increasing allowance based on length of service; your birthday as a paid day off
  • Wellbeing support: Enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental and surrogacy pay); Private Medical Insurance; Cycle to Work scheme; discounted gym membership; non-accidental injury support
  • Professional development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid leave (pro rata); Certificate support; Learning and development via IVC Evidensia Academy; access to Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia; research funding opportunities; Infection Prevention and Control Programme; Quality Improvement Programme
  • Professional memberships: VDS cover and RCVS fees covered
  • Additional perks: Pawsome Benefits reward gateway with hundreds of retailer discounts and cashback; Pension with 5% employee and 3% employer contribution; discounted staff pet care
  • Salary: Up to £32,000 DOE
