About the Role

This is a full-time surgical nursing position within a specialist referral hospital, where you’ll deliver advanced perioperative care to complex orthopaedic and soft tissue cases. You’ll work on a rotating 8-week shift pattern with standard shifts from 7:00am to 8:00pm, including a dedicated scrub week (Tuesday–Friday, 8:00am–6:00pm, with Monday off). The role includes participation in an on-call rota and offers genuine opportunities to develop your anaesthesia and surgical expertise under the guidance of specialist surgeons.

As a member of this multidisciplinary specialist team, you’ll contribute to high-standard patient care, support clinical decision-making, and collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist specialist surgeons with complex orthopaedic procedures, including fracture management, angular limb deformities, and spinal surgeries
  • Provide high-quality anaesthesia and perioperative nursing care to ensure patient safety and optimal recovery
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage surgical theatres to the highest standards
  • Support diagnostic and imaging procedures as required within the referral setting
  • Work collaboratively within the specialist-led team while exercising clinical autonomy and initiative
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in patient outcomes and service delivery through evidence-based practice

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse
  • Significant experience in clinical practice with advanced nursing skills relevant to surgical specialisms
  • Demonstrable experience working with complex medical or surgical cases in a referral or advanced-care setting
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical governance, and continuous improvement
  • Interest in anaesthesia and surgical nursing with a passion for referral-level care
