About the Role

You’ll be joining Mandeville Veterinary Hospital’s nursing team during an exciting 12-month maternity cover period. This full-time position suits RVNs or newly qualified nurses who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care across all nursing domains. If you’ve worked in a busy branch practice and want to explore hospital-based nursing—or if you’re keen to develop your emergency and critical care skills—this role offers immersion in a high-standard clinical setting.

Your day-to-day will involve supporting the hospital’s large clinical team, trainee nurses, and front-of-house staff. You’ll work Monday to Friday with a 1:5 weekend rotation (compensated with time off in lieu) and no on-call requirements, giving you genuine work-life balance. The hospital’s location in Northolt is brilliantly accessible: just a 6-minute walk from Northolt Central Line station, connecting you to central and east London.

Mandeville is a first-opinion, emergency, critical care, and referral centre equipped with cutting-edge diagnostics including a new CT scanner, specialist imaging services, and experienced surgical teams performing advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures. You’ll nurse a diverse range of patients and conditions, supported by a Deputy Head Nurse, Head Nurse, Head Vet, and Hospital Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out acting weekend Charge Nurse duties as directed
  • Advise clients on post-operative discharge instructions (verbal and written) and ensure correct medications are supplied
  • Record all relevant clinical conversations in patient histories relating to fees, treatment options, and patient care
  • Clean, pack, sterilise, and store equipment to clinical standards when not in use
  • Maintain accurate records of all hospitalised patients
  • Assist veterinary surgeons during theatre, inpatient procedures, examinations, and consultations
  • Guide and mentor trainee nurses on their journey to RVN registration
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and tidiness across consult, ward, and theatre areas using standard operating procedures
  • Uphold a respectful and collaborative team environment

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration, or about to qualify as an RVN
  • Demonstrated passion for hospital nursing and patient care
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment
  • Experience in a busy veterinary setting (branch or hospital)
  • Willingness to develop skills and take on responsibility
