London, London
Full Time

Ready to step up into a leadership role without the chaos? This cat-friendly Acton practice is looking for an experienced RVN to mentor a new team and shape the practice's future—with zero on-call requirements and genuine support behind you.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:3 Saturday rotation and 1:10 Sunday rotation at Mandeville Hospital; time back awarded for weekend work. No on-call requirements.

About the Role

This is your opportunity to move into a senior nursing position at a charming, recently refurbished Acton practice—literally opposite the Elizabeth Line station for easy commutes across London and beyond. You’ll lead a new support team whilst working alongside an engaged veterinarian, taking genuine ownership of clinical standards and nursing development. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a manageable 1:3 Saturday rotation and 1:10 Sunday rotation at the nearby Mandeville Hospital (with time back awarded), plus 1–2 bank holidays annually at Mandeville. Crucially, there are no on-call requirements.

The practice itself is housed in a characterful converted bank with original vault features. You’ll have access to two consultation rooms and a dedicated colleague space for proper breaks. The Acton branch holds ISFM Cat Friendly status and actively supports Cats Protection Charity, so if feline focus appeals to you, this is an ideal fit. Mandeville Hospital nearby provides comprehensive out-of-hours cover with state-of-the-art facilities including CT, advanced ultrasound, scopes, and laparoscopic equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the branch support team, helping shape clinical protocols and nursing standards
  • Support the branch veterinarian and maintain high standards of first-opinion GP care
  • Take a hands-on clinical role in nursing procedures and patient care
  • Champion the practice’s ISFM Cat Friendly status and welfare initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with the experienced regional manager to drive the practice forward

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Experienced clinical RVN with a track record in small animal practice
  • Confident, collaborative approach to team leadership
  • Prior formal leadership experience is desirable but not essential—in-house leadership training will be provided
  • Genuine interest in mentoring and developing junior team members

Benefits

  • Salary: £34,000–£39,000 depending on experience, with room for growth
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays (pro-rata if part-time)
  • Annual CPD budget plus up to 2 days’ paid CPD leave per year (pro-rata if part-time)
  • Paid 30-minute lunch breaks
  • RCVS and BVNA fees covered by the practice
  • Private medical insurance scheme available at reduced rate, plus medical cashback for dental, physiotherapy, optician, chiropractic and other routine costs
  • Generous colleague discounts and shopping discounts
  • Petplan 20% colleague discount
  • Relocation assistance where applicable
  • Generous colleague introduction reward scheme
  • 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme
  • Wellness plans for all new starters
  • Mental health first aid trained senior managers

About the Practice

Acton is part of Goddard Veterinary Group, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2022 and now operates 46 branches, three hospitals, and its own veterinary nursing college. The practice is RCVS accredited and holds ISFM Cat Friendly certification. Goddard takes colleague wellbeing seriously, with monthly Town Hall meetings featuring the board, a Colleague Forum for peer feedback, and all senior managers trained in mental health first aid. The group is a proud member of the VetPartners family.

The Acton branch itself is characterful and well-equipped for day-to-day first-opinion care, with strong support from an experienced regional manager who takes their role in branch support very seriously. The nearby Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides robust out-of-hours cover with advanced facilities including CT, ultrasound, scopes, and specialist teams.
