About the Role

Greenside Vets is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Veterinary Care Assistant to join their welcoming mixed animal practice in St Boswells. This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week with no weekend commitments—giving you a genuine work-life balance whilst you make a tangible impact on patient care.

You’ll play a central role in the day-to-day operations of the practice, supporting the veterinary and nursing teams across a diverse range of clinical areas. Whether you’re handling patients with empathy, assisting in theatre, managing inventory, or delivering client care, you’ll work in a varied, fast-paced environment alongside dedicated professionals who share your commitment to animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate patient handling, restraint and in-patient care, including feeding, grooming, exercise and monitoring
  • Support surgical and diagnostic procedures—imaging, laboratory work, theatre preparation and patient recovery
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and infection control, ensuring accurate clinical record keeping
  • Prepare, clean, sterilise and maintain clinical areas, equipment and sterile supplies
  • Assist with pharmacy management, stock control and medication dispensing under veterinary direction
  • Deliver excellent client care, supporting consultations, reception duties and end-of-life appointments
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure smooth patient flow and exceptional service
  • Engage in ongoing CPD and practice initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, GDPR and practice policies

  • Proactive, enthusiastic and approachable personality with strong team-working abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask with flexibility and self-motivation
  • Willingness to use your own initiative and go above and beyond for patients and colleagues
