Ready to join a thriving 24/7 hospital with zero night shifts and genuine work-life balance? Hampden Vets is looking for an enthusiastic RVN who wants variety, great team spirit, and room to grow.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:6 weekend rota with lieu time; no night shift working as a dedicated nights team is in place

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital that operates 24/7, 365 days a year. You’ll work 40 hours per week across four 10-hour shifts (ranging from 07:30 to 19:30), with the flexibility to move to part-time hours if preferred. The beauty of this role is that there are no night shifts—a dedicated nights team handles those hours, so you can enjoy genuine work-life balance. You’ll rotate through theatre, ward, nurse clinics, and admitting/discharge duties, working with a high exotic caseload in the small animal hospital.

Located in Aylesbury, a vibrant market town in Buckinghamshire’s South East England, you’ll be based at an RCVS-accredited facility with state-of-the-art equipment including CT and dental X-ray. The surrounding area is perfect for exploring the scenic Chiltern Hills, and London is under an hour away by train, making this an ideal base for commuting or weekend adventures.

Your weekends follow a manageable 1:6 rota with lieu time in compensation, plus participation in bank holiday cover. The team here genuinely celebrates achievements—staff are recognised each month with bonuses for going above and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard nursing care across theatre, ward, and clinic settings
  • Lead or support nurse clinics (a particular interest in this area is desirable but not essential)
  • Manage admissions, discharge procedures, and pharmaceutical dispensing
  • Support the team of 23 RVNs and 4 PCAs in delivering care to small animals with a particular focus on exotic species
  • Work collaboratively across a multi-disciplinary hospital environment
  • Participate in 1:6 weekend rotas and bank holiday coverage

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse
  • Enthusiastic, committed approach to patient care and team collaboration
  • Flexibility and willingness to rotate across different clinical areas
  • Interest in nurse clinics is desirable but not essential
  • A caring and approachable demeanor

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum (depending on experience; pro rata for part-time)
  • Annual Leave: 6 weeks paid holiday including bank holidays
  • CPD & Professional Development: £600 CPD allowance per annum plus comprehensive CPD/training support
  • Professional Memberships: RCVS membership paid, plus one additional membership subscription
  • Health & Wellbeing: Health Shield contribution covering dentistry, sports massage, and other treatments; focus on employee wellbeing
  • Wellbeing Protection: VDS cover and enhanced paternity, maternity, adoption, shared parental leave, and surrogacy pay
  • Discounts & Perks: Discounted veterinary fees, My Perks cashback scheme (shopping, travel, entertainment), and Cycle to Work scheme
  • Additional Benefits: Paid parking, company sick pay, annual pay reviews, and career progression opportunities
