🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:4 weekend rota plus one night on-call per week. Out-of-hours duties limited to farm and equine clients only; Vets Now covers small animal emergency work and performs triage for large animal calls.

About the Role

Haven Veterinary Group is seeking a mixed animal veterinary surgeon to join their thriving two-site practice spanning Hull city centre and the village of Hedon. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week), though part-time and flexible working arrangements are actively welcomed. You’ll enjoy a manageable schedule with one night on-call and a 1:4 weekend rota, with out-of-hours duties limited to farm and equine clients only—Vets Now handles small animal emergency cover and triage.

Working across both small animal, farm, and equine disciplines, you’ll encounter a genuinely varied caseload each day. The practice is RCVS accredited for small animal, farm, and equine work, and holds ISFM Silver accreditation for feline care. Large animal work is primarily ambulatory from the Hedon site, giving you the best of both rural and urban practice life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver first-opinion veterinary care across small animal, farm, and equine disciplines
  • Contribute to the practice’s diagnostics and surgical work, utilising modern equipment including X-ray, ultrasound, and endoscopy facilities
  • Provide on-call support for farm and equine emergencies (1:4 weekend rota plus one night on-call per week)
  • Participate in the practice’s strong mentoring and training culture, supporting newer team members where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively within a 13-vet team, each with different specialisms and interests

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with mixed animal experience
  • RCVS registration
  • Willingness to engage in on-call duties for farm and equine clients
  • A collaborative approach to team working and professional development

Benefits

  • Salary up to £45,000 depending on experience
  • 5 weeks paid holiday plus bank holidays, with options to buy and sell additional holiday (pro rata)
  • 5 days CPD per annum (pro rata)
  • £1,750 annual CPD allowance (pro rata), with additional support for certificate qualifications
  • RCVS membership and two additional professional memberships of your choice paid by the practice
  • Health plan membership with multiple benefits
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, and sick leave
  • Pension scheme

About the Practice

Haven Veterinary Group is a well-established mixed practice operating two sites in East Yorkshire: one in central Hull and one in the village of Hedon. The practice combines the energy of city-centre work with the calm of rural practice, offering staff a genuine blend of urban and countryside living. The team comprises 13 vets (four of whom specialise in mixed animal work) and benefits from modern facilities at both locations, including digital radiography, ultrasound, and endoscopy equipment available for large animal visits.

The practice prioritises team wellbeing and professional development as core values. They operate as a Veterinary Nurse training practice, employ a VetGDP adviser, and actively support vets early in their careers. The culture emphasises work-life balance, mentoring, and supporting individual career aspirations—recent recruitment was needed due to a team member’s international relocation, reflecting the practice’s low turnover and positive working environment.
