Veterinary Care Assistant (Part-Time)

About the Role

This is a part-time permanent position working 24 hours per week across Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with no out-of-hours or weekend commitments. You’ll be supporting a busy first opinion and referral hospital that combines general practice with a dedicated 24/7 emergency service, giving you exposure to diverse cases and clinical scenarios.

Holly House is located just 10 minutes from Leeds, with easy access to York, Harrogate, and the Yorkshire Dales. You’ll work alongside a warm, motivated team that prioritises wellbeing and inclusivity, regularly organising team events and maintaining a genuine culture of support. If you’re considering a long-term career in veterinary medicine, the practice actively supports progression onto the registered veterinary nurse (RVN) training programme for suitable candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting the clinical team with hospitalised patients, including ops and surgical inpatients
• Assisting in theatre, wards, pharmacy, and during consultations
• Answering telephone calls and covering reception duties as required
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness across all practice sites
• Stock management and ordering
• Receiving training on medical equipment to support the clinical team in delivering excellent patient care

Requirements

• Enthusiasm, dedication, and a strong work ethic
• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
• No formal qualifications required – full training will be provided

About the Practice

Holly House Veterinary Hospital is a first opinion and referral practice operating 8am–7pm Monday to Friday, with a dedicated onsite emergency service open 24 hours, seven days a week. The practice holds certificates in Emergency & Critical Care, Medicine, Surgery, Exotics, and Dentistry, attracting a varied caseload and giving staff meaningful experience across multiple disciplines.

The team is inclusive and motivated, regularly hosting charity events (including a recent Dragon Boat fundraiser) alongside social gatherings like summer BBQs and Christmas parties. Wellbeing is a core priority, supported by three wellbeing champions, Mental Health First Aiders, and team coaches.
