About the Role

Join Isle Vets, a modern equine and farm practice nestled in the heart of Cambridgeshire, where you’ll work across a fascinating caseload spanning performance horses, breeding stock, smallholdings, and large commercial farms. This full-time or part-time position offers a rare combination: predominantly ambulatory work with the variety you crave. A full-time role involves 40 hours per week over 4 days (Monday–Friday) with 1 night per week on-call and 1:4 weekend cover. The practice’s flexible approach means colleagues with young families genuinely achieve work-life balance.

Ely is a charming cathedral city with stunning historic architecture, excellent access to nature reserves like Wicken Fen, and easy connections to Cambridge and London. You’ll be based in a purpose-built practice on the outskirts of town, fully equipped with modern hospitalisation and surgical facilities for both equine and farm animals.

The team—9 veterinary surgeons (including 2 certificate holders), 2 registered veterinary nurses, and 5 support staff—is genuinely collaborative. If you have interests in AI, embryo transfer, orthopaedics, reproduction, or surgery, you’ll find mentorship and support to develop your specialisms or work towards further qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver primary care and surgical treatment to equine patients, including general health checks, dentistry, lameness diagnosis, caesareans, rig operations, and laser procedures
  • Manage farm animal cases ranging from smallholder herds (pigs, alpacas) to large-scale pedigree beef suckler operations
  • Conduct predominantly ambulatory work—a valid driving license is essential
  • Contribute to emergency referral coordination, with excellent access to specialist equine facilities for complex cases
  • Participate in community engagement: host client evenings, deliver educational talks, and support local charities
  • Collaborate with an experienced team across orthopaedics, reproduction, medicine, and surgery

  • Valid UK driving license (essential for ambulatory work)
  • Genuine interest in equine and/or farm animal medicine
  • Professional approach to teamwork and a supportive practice culture
