About the Role

This is your chance to work night shifts in a purpose-built veterinary hospital opening April 2026, equipped with everything modern emergency and critical care demands. You’ll be part of a dedicated night team at Kings Veterinary Centre, operating on a 7-on, 14-off annualised rota across 40 hours per week—giving you genuine downtime between blocks. The hospital provides 24/7 on-site emergency care, 365 days a year, so you’ll never be working in isolation or without backup systems in place.

Melton Mowbray offers a market-town setting with easy access to the wider East Midlands region. You’ll be joining a collaborative, supportive team culture where mentorship and open communication are built into how they work, not just talked about.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical excellence during night shifts, managing emergency and critical care cases independently and confidently
  • Interpret diagnostics and make informed clinical decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Work as part of the dedicated night team, maintaining calm, professional communication with colleagues and clients
  • Utilise the full range of on-site facilities: two theatres, CT scanner, X-ray suite, separate dog and cat hospitals and wards, and five consult rooms
  • Work alongside a highly skilled nursing team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and maintain the practice’s reputation for bespoke, affordable care

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Surgeon with ECC (emergency and critical care) interest or experience
  • Confident clinical decision-making abilities and strong diagnostic interpretation skills
  • Team player who thrives under pressure and remains calm in fast-paced situations
  • Collaborative attitude with excellent client communication skills
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts while maintaining professional standards

Benefits

  • Time off that actually works: 7-on, 14-off rota plus 5 weeks holiday, bank holidays, and birthday leave
  • Professional support: RCVS and VDS fees paid; extensive internal and externally-funded CPD opportunities
  • Financial and wellbeing: Employer contribution pension scheme; life assurance; generous staff discount scheme; e-car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Family-friendly: Enhanced equal family leave
  • Relocation: Relocation support available
  • Career development: Access to leadership development programmes and clinical networking across the Linnaeus group

About the Practice

Kings Veterinary Centre is part of Linnaeus and Mars Veterinary Health, the world’s largest family-owned veterinary company. The practice operates as a first-opinion, RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital with five branches across Melton, Syston, Uppingham, Oakham, Market Harborough, and Corby. Known for strong community involvement and support of local pet charities, Kings has built its reputation on delivering high standards of affordable care backed by dedicated clinical and non-clinical teams.

The brand-new hospital opening April 2026 represents a significant investment in modern facilities and reflects the group’s commitment to clinical excellence. You’ll have dedicated administrative support (HR, Health & Safety, Finance) handling non-clinical duties, freeing you to focus entirely on veterinary medicine. As part of the Linnaeus family, you’ll access a network of over 6,000 associates, worldwide development opportunities, and a comprehensive wellbeing package prioritising both physical and mental health.
