Full Time
Shared OOH
Ready for a role that actually respects your work-life balance? Join Kings Veterinary Centre's small animal team where you'll work 4 days a week with no weeknight on-call, and be part of a forward-thinking practice moving into a brand-new hospital in May 2026.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:5 Saturday and Sunday rota (currently 1:8). No weeknight on-call. Equal share of bank holidays. OOH duties at Melton Mowbray hospital.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Kings Veterinary Centre, an RVCS-accredited first opinion practice with 5 branches across the area, as an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse. This is a full-time position working 4 days per week on either 8:00am–6:00pm or 8:30am–6:30pm shifts (with paid lunch breaks), giving you genuine flexibility in your week.

Your role will rotate between inpatient, theatre, and consulting rooms, exposing you to a varied caseload of small animal work. The practice operates its own 24/7 out-of-hours service with dedicated night nurses, so there’s no weeknight on-call expected from this role—though you will participate in a 1:5 Saturday and Sunday rota (currently running 1:8), plus an equal share of bank holidays at their OOH hospital in Melton Mowbray. Exciting news: the practice is moving to a brand-new hospital in May 2026, just a stone’s throw from the current Melton site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate between inpatient care, theatre support, and consulting room duties
  • Provide nursing care across a varied small animal caseload
  • Participate in the 1:5 weekend (Saturday/Sunday) rota at the Melton Mowbray OOH hospital
  • Cover an equal share of bank holiday shifts as part of the shared rota system
  • Support the clinical team in maintaining high standards of patient care across the practice
  • Contribute to the practice’s community involvement and local charity work

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration
  • Experience as a veterinary nurse in small animal practice
  • Willingness to participate in a 1:5 weekend rota

Benefits

  • Salary: From £31,200 per annum (£15.00–£16.00 per hour) depending on experience
  • Hours: 40 hours per week over 4 days—no weeknight on-call
  • Annual leave: 5 weeks plus bank holidays, plus a birthday day off (pro rata)
  • Life assurance: 4× salary
  • Pension: 3% employer contribution, 5% employee contribution via salary sacrifice
  • Enhanced sick pay and family leave
  • Salary sacrifice schemes: E-cars, Cycle to Work (permanent staff only)
  • Refer a Friend bonus scheme
  • Pet insurance discount and substantial staff discount for registered pets
  • Benefits Hub: Discount platform for retail and lifestyle
  • Wellness benefits: Reduced Pure Gym membership, Eye Care Scheme, Headspace app access, annual flu voucher
  • Employee Assistance Programme: Confidential support and Mental Health First Aiders across the practice
