About the Role

You’ll join the newly reinvigorated leadership team at Lockwood Animal Hospital, working across their Rosewood and Blackheath sites in Coseley. This permanent role offers a well-balanced caseload spanning medicine and surgery, with genuine flexibility to shape your practice around your interests and strengths. The team will support you throughout, though periods of sole charge work are part of the role. This is a daytime-only position with no out-of-hours or on-call requirements—your weekends are genuinely yours. The practice is offering a welcome bonus of up to £5,000 (pro rata) for new starters.

Typically, full-time positions involve 40 hours per week over 4 days, plus a 1:8 Saturday rota (09:00–17:00). The practice is committed to flexible working arrangements, so if you need to adjust your pattern, they’ll work with you to find the right fit.

The location offers excellent connectivity to Birmingham, with easy motorway access and proximity to Bullring and Grand Central shopping, making it ideal if you want vibrant city amenities on your doorstep without the commute chaos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality small animal medical and surgical care alongside the wider veterinary team
  • Manage a mixed caseload of medicine and surgery, with input into shaping your own clinical interests
  • Work across two sites (Rosewood and Blackheath), sharing responsibilities with 11 other vets
  • Undertake periods of sole charge when required, supported by the wider team structure
  • Contribute to a practice culture that prioritises patient care and staff wellbeing
  • Engage in CPD and professional development opportunities, including certificate support

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (RCVS registered)
  • Experience in small animal medicine and surgery
  • Comfortable working autonomously during periods of sole charge
  • Professional approach to client communication and clinical standards
  • Willingness to work a 1:8 Saturday rota (daytime only)

Lockwood Animal Hospital is a purpose-built small animal practice in Coseley serving a loyal client base with a reputation for exceptional veterinary care. The 12-strong clinical team includes certificate holders and those pursuing qualifications in exotics, internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, and imaging. The practice is supported by a highly skilled, long-standing nurse team and benefits from low staff turnover, reflecting a strong emphasis on positive working culture and job satisfaction.

The premises feature a surgical theatre, prep room, digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscope, in-house laboratory, and a dental X-ray unit currently being installed.
