About the Role

This is a significant opportunity for an experienced veterinary surgeon to take on a more senior position, working alongside the practice owners to lead the clinical direction of the team. You’ll be joining Longton Vets For Pets at an exciting time—the practice has recently relocated to a purpose-built facility that’s double the size of the previous location, packed with modern equipment and specialist facilities.

The role offers genuine flexibility: full-time hours are preferred, but part-time and flexible arrangements are actively welcomed. The only weekend commitment is 1 in 4 Saturdays, 9am–12pm. There are absolutely no out-of-hours, Sunday, or bank holiday duties—you’ll have your evenings and weekends protected to recharge.

You’ll work with an experienced nursing team and approachable management who genuinely prioritise open communication, clinical excellence, and professional development in equal measure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-standard consultations and routine surgical procedures
  • Assist the practice owners in leading and mentoring the wider veterinary team
  • Contribute to the clinical direction and development of the practice
  • Take external referrals for CT scanning cases, with full on-site CT capability
  • Collaborate with the in-house physiotherapist and rehabilitation team (which includes an underwater treadmill)
  • Participate in a supportive culture where you back each other in consults and celebrate clinical wins

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in both consultations and routine surgery
  • Confident clinical decision-making and strong communication skills
  • A commitment to excellent patient care and client service
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a supportive team

Benefits

  • Salary up to £65,000 (FTE, depending on experience)
  • Full-time, part-time, or flexible hours considered
  • No out-of-hours duties, Sundays, or bank holiday work
  • 1 in 4 Saturdays only (9am–12pm shift)
  • Protected, dedicated lunch breaks that actually happen
  • Generous CPD allowance with support for certificate study (mentored by someone who’s already completed one)
  • Paid professional memberships: RCVS, VDS, and one professional body of your choice
  • Positive, collaborative working environment with team cake celebrations and genuine work-life balance
