Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a maternity cover (Fixed Term Contract) position at Macqueen Veterinary Centre in Devizes, offering part-time hours at 20 hours per week with one night on-call for inpatients only. You’ll work within a collaborative culture where clinicians are empowered to make clinical decisions, continuous improvement is encouraged, and best practice is shared across the team.

Macqueen’s is a small animal practice with a passionate team of vets, nurses, PCAs and receptionists. The practice boasts modern facilities including on-site CT scanning, laparoscopy and full hospital equipment, giving you the clinical tools to deliver outstanding care. The team also accepts referrals in surgical, cardiology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and outpatient CT.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality clinical care to small animal patients, managing a varied surgical and medical caseload
• Carry out diagnostic investigations with precision and confidence
• Lead on case management and offer guidance to the wider veterinary team
• Mentor and support colleagues in developing their clinical skills
• Deliver excellent client communication and create positive, reassuring experiences that build trust
• Contribute to shaping clinical standards and best practice within the practice
• Participate in the on-call rota for inpatient care only (one night commitment)

Requirements

• Qualified veterinary surgeon with strong clinical autonomy and experience in small animal medicine and surgery
• Demonstrated ability to handle a varied caseload confidently and independently
• Commitment to continuous professional development and gaining further clinical expertise
• Excellent client care skills and ability to build positive relationships
• Natural mentor and team player who enjoys supporting colleagues
• Current RCVS registration and professional standing
