About the Role

You’ll join the nursing team at a well-established small animal practice in Shrewsbury, delivering high-quality patient care across a diverse caseload. This full-time permanent position offers a manageable 1:6 weekend rota and just 1–2 weeks of on-call per year, giving you genuine control over your schedule. Based in the beautiful market town of Shrewsbury, you’ll enjoy easy access to the Shropshire Hills and countryside—perfect for unwinding after a rewarding shift.

No two days are identical here. You’ll rotate between hands-on nursing duties, complex medical and surgical inpatient care, and theatre work supporting interesting surgical procedures. The team places real emphasis on clinical coaching and mentoring colleagues, creating a supportive environment where you can develop professionally while making a tangible difference to patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a wide range of hands-on nursing duties across general and complex medical cases
  • Provide skilled inpatient care and post-operative monitoring using multiparameter monitoring systems
  • Support surgical procedures including anaesthesia and theatre nursing
  • Mentor and clinically coach team members, contributing to a culture of continuous learning
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary team and fellow nurses to ensure exceptional patient and client care
  • Utilise the practice’s specialist equipment including CT scanner, K-laser, endoscopy, and laparoscopic systems

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse (essential)
  • Demonstrable experience in small animal nursing
  • Strong clinical skills and a commitment to high standards of patient care
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Enthusiasm for ongoing professional development

  • Salary: £30,500 per annum
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week with 1:6 weekend rota and approximately 1–2 weeks on-call annually
