Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA)

About the Role

As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you'll be the backbone of the practice's day-to-day operations, supporting nurses and vets with in-patient care and ensuring every pet receives exceptional attention. Your work will range from assisting during surgeries and procedures to providing direct patient care—walking, feeding, and monitoring animals in recovery. This is a full-time position based in Islington, North London, where you'll work within a collaborative team that genuinely supports one another. This role is ideal if you're organised, calm under pressure, and keen to learn in a busy veterinary environment. You'll help maintain the high standards Medivet is known for while building a foundation for a long-term career in veterinary medicine.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional care to clients and patients during and between procedures, maintaining all regulatory and practice standards
• Monitor and care for hospitalised pets, including feeding, toileting, and exercise
• Support nurses and vets during surgeries and clinical procedures
• Work collaboratively as part of a supportive veterinary team
• Ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for patients and staff

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or over (Health and Safety Executive requirements for this role)
• Passion for animal care and welfare
• Ability to remain calm and organised under pressure
• Team player with a flexible, can-do attitude
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Excellent communication and client care skills
