About the Role

This full-time maternity cover position offers the chance to become part of a well-established small animal practice nestled in the picturesque semi-rural town of Leominster. You’ll work 40 hours per week with 1 in 6 Saturday shifts and no on-call or bank holiday commitments—the kind of sustainable schedule that actually lets you have a life outside work. The practice values strong mentorship and clinical development, so you’ll have genuine support to shape your nursing career.

Your day will blend hands-on nursing care with opportunities to deliver nurse-led appointments, assist in theatres, and contribute to clinical coaching across the practice. You’ll work alongside experienced veterinary surgeons and a team of 9 nurses plus 8 reception and admin colleagues, creating a collaborative environment where you’re genuinely supported rather than left to sink or swim.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional patient and client care across all nursing duties
  • Support surgical and procedural work, including pre- and post-operative care
  • Lead nurse consultations and manage schedule 3 activities
  • Monitor patients and manage admissions, discharges, and transfers to out-of-hours or specialist care as directed by the veterinary team
  • Dispense and check medications accurately
  • Contribute to team coordination and practice efficiency through briefings and collaborative working
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, practice, and operational standards
  • Support clinical coaching and development within the practice

Requirements

  • RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Demonstrated experience delivering exceptional patient and client care
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Experience supporting nurse consultations and understanding their impact on practice performance
  • Coaching and influencing skills to bring out the best in colleagues
