Night Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

You’ll be joining a supportive and friendly team at Medivet’s busy 24-hour practice in Chorley, providing out-of-hours care across multiple regional sites. This is a dedicated night position working 7pm–9am on an annualised 5-on-10-off rota, designed to give you excellent work-life balance whilst managing a varied and rewarding caseload focused on emergency and inpatient care.

The role suits confident, experienced practitioners who are comfortable working independently overnight and thrive in a calm, compassionate team environment. You’ll be handling emergency and critical care cases, so prior OOH or ECC experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide emergency and critical care to patients presenting overnight at the Chorley 24-hour facility
• Support out-of-hours cover for Medivet sites across the region
• Work independently during night shifts (7pm–9am) whilst maintaining high clinical standards
• Manage a varied caseload including emergency admissions and inpatient monitoring
• Collaborate effectively with the nursing team and on-call support services

Requirements

• Qualified veterinary surgeon with relevant registration
• Proven experience in out-of-hours (OOH) or emergency and critical care (ECC) work
• Confidence working independently overnight
• Strong clinical knowledge of emergency and critical care management
• Team-focused approach with calm and compassionate patient care
