Night Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

You’ll join Medivet Thurmaston’s 24-hour hospital as a night-shift ECC vet, working a 2 weekends on, 2 weekends off pattern across Saturday and Sunday, 7pm–9am. This is sole-charge work—the kind of role that suits a confident, experienced all-rounder who thrives with clinical autonomy and the responsibility that comes with it.

The hospital recently underwent refurbishment and serves both Medivet and non-Medivet practices, meaning a varied emergency caseload across small animal presentations. You’ll work in a modern environment equipped with orthopaedic kit, digital and dental X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and tonometry. You’re never truly alone: an RVN and rotational VCA support you on every shift, freeing you to focus on clinical decision-making and patient care.

Based in Thurmaston, Leicester, you’ll be part of Medivet’s wider 24-hour and referral hospital network, with access to clinical communities and peer support beyond your own team.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional clinical care in consultations and surgery, maintaining regulatory, practice, and operational compliance standards
• Manage a varied emergency caseload independently, making clinical decisions with confidence
• Develop tailored treatment plans in collaboration with clients
• Work collaboratively with your RVN and VCA team to ensure high-quality emergency and critical care delivery
• Contribute to the development of Medivet’s broader clinical communities

Requirements

• Qualified MRCVS
• Strong medical and surgical experience in small animal emergency medicine
• Confident, autonomous clinician comfortable working sole-charge in an ECC environment
• Team player with genuine commitment to clinical excellence and client care
