About the Role

This is a fixed-term receptionist position at MiNightVet Chester, a dedicated out-of-hours emergency facility. You’ll work Sunday mornings only (08:00–12:00), making it ideal if you’re seeking flexible, part-time hours alongside other commitments. The role sits at the front line of emergency care, where every interaction with worried pet owners matters during some of their most stressful moments.

You’ll be the calm, professional voice managing calls, welcoming distressed clients, and ensuring the practice runs smoothly during busy weekend mornings. It’s hands-on, varied work that blends customer service excellence with genuine compassion for both animals and the people who care for them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls and schedule emergency appointments with efficiency and care
  • Greet new clients on arrival, register them in the system, and create a welcoming atmosphere despite the stress of the situation
  • Respond to client queries via phone, email, and face-to-face with professionalism and empathy
  • Process insurance documentation accurately and promptly
  • Dispense medications as instructed
  • Handle payments and financial transactions reliably
  • Manage the in-house patient management system to keep records organised
  • Liaise with veterinary colleagues and other practices to support patient continuity
  • Handle sensitive conversations around debts, belongings, and refunds with discretion
  • Provide emotional support to clients whilst maintaining professional boundaries during distressing situations

Requirements

  • Previous receptionist experience is essential—ideally in a veterinary or healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication skills and genuine empathy for stressed clients
  • Strong customer service background with proven public-facing experience
  • Resilience and emotional intelligence to handle difficult conversations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems
  • Positive attitude and collaborative team approach
  • Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available for this role)

Benefits

  • Salary aligned with National Minimum Wage (effective 1 April 2024)
  • 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Staff discounts on veterinary services and products
  • Access to Employee Assistance Programme and 400+ Mental Health First-Aiders
  • Structured Receptionist Careers Pathway with training and development courses
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment
