About the Role

The National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) is seeking a qualified Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join its Hertfordshire Rehoming Centre in Watford. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within the animal welfare charity sector, supporting more than 400 animals annually through rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming.

Working Monday to Friday with flexible full-time or part-time options available, you’ll carry out first opinion small animal work in a dedicated veterinary unit. You’ll be supported by a highly experienced registered veterinary nurse.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic investigations and pragmatic case management for rescue animals
  • Perform routine surgery, including on-site neutering and dental procedures
  • Manage consultations with confidence and clinical decision-making expertise
  • Implement tailored treatment plans and prevention protocols
  • Advise and support NAWT staff and prospective adopters on veterinary matters
  • Work alongside an experienced RVN to ensure smooth operation of the veterinary unit
  • Contribute to the health and welfare assessments of animals in the centre’s care

Requirements

  • MRCVS qualification (required)
  • Minimum 3 years’ veterinary experience (required)
  • Solid clinical knowledge and confidence with routine small animal procedures
  • Experience in shelter or rescue medicine (ideally, but not essential)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • UK work authorisation (required)
