About the Role

You’ll be joining North Downs Specialist Referrals’ mature and stable oncology service for a 6-month fixed-term contract (April–September 2026) covering a period of Equal Family Leave. This is a busy, collaborative service where case discussion is part of the culture, and where you’ll have the support of specialist colleagues across 12 disciplines on site. The team—three oncology specialists, two dedicated nurses, an intern, and a nursing assistant—operates like a well-oiled machine while maintaining genuine time for patient care.

The role offers flexible scheduling between 3–5 days per week (ideally 4 days/32 hours), with weekend on-call covering current patients only. You’ll have access to cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment facilities in an attractive Surrey location, just 40 minutes by train from central London and with easy access to Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist oncology care alongside two ECVIM-oncology diplomates (Mike and Francesca) and rotating intern Joana
  • Collaborate with the dedicated oncology nursing team (Debbie and Anita) and nursing assistant (Alyssia)
  • Participate in case discussions and clinical mentorship across the service
  • Liaise with four specialist soft tissue surgeons and other services (surgery, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, neurology, dentistry, anaesthesia, dermatology)
  • Cover weekend on-call duties for current patient management (approximately 2 weekends during the 6-month period)
  • Contribute to the multi-disciplinary referral hospital environment and ensure smooth service transfers and advice requests

Requirements

  • Specialist qualification or board eligibility in oncology or internal medicine
  • If internal medicine background, must have substantial oncology case exposure and demonstrated interest
  • Registered veterinary surgeon (RCVS) with UK practising certificate
