About the Role

This is a structured rotating internship programme designed to fast-track your development across multiple specialist disciplines. You’ll spend the year rotating through internal medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, oncology, emergency and critical care, neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology, and dentistry – gaining hands-on experience alongside world-renowned specialists at one of 11 leading referral hospitals across the UK.

As a Linnaeus Rotating Intern, you’ll be part of a vibrant community of over 100 fellow interns and 100+ residents, giving you unparalleled access to mentors, colleagues, and learning opportunities. The programme offers clear pathways into specialist residencies, advanced general practice, or academia – and the numbers speak for themselves: over the past two years, 70% of interns who wanted to specialise progressed to Discipline Specific Internships or Residencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on clinical work across 10 specialist disciplines, including diagnostics, surgery, and direct patient care from day one
  • Participate in small-group seminars, weekly clinical teaching sessions, and monthly film reading rounds led by specialists
  • Engage in clinical reasoning rounds and ongoing professional development workshops
  • Complete a year-long research training course with full support to conduct clinical research and present at conferences or publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Undertake RECOVER online certification in basic and advanced life support
  • Work towards your CertAVP qualification, which all rotating interns are enrolled onto
  • Develop career management skills through dedicated workshops on CV writing, interview techniques, and long-term planning

Requirements

  • Registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in small animal practice
  • Have completed their RCVS Veterinary Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) – Or you do not need to complete the RCVS VetGDP. We will not be able to accept your application if you have not completed your RCVS VetGDP or are not close to completion.
  • Strong commitment to specialist development and clinical learning
